Principle 2
Workforce
Opportunities
Everyone should have the chance to access jobs, training, and career growth.
Helping your team build skills is one of the best ways to grow your business. When people have the right training, they work more efficiently, earn more, and open up new opportunities. For themselves, and for Cornwall.
Across the UK, many adults still have low literacy or numeracy skills. In Cornwall, employers have told us that skill gaps are holding people back. Better skills mean better performance, higher wages, and stronger businesses.
You play a key role in developing your workforce. A supportive environment and proactive management help people use and grow their skills. Training your team doesn’t just improve productivity, it also helps with recruitment and retention. Skilled staff are more likely to stay when they feel valued and supported.
Create an Employment and Skills Action Plan
An Employment and Skills Action Plan helps you take a structured approach to developing your team’s skills. It shows that you’re serious about supporting staff and planning for the future.
This kind of plan was a requirement for accessing Good Growth funding. Having one ready can help you unlock finance, attract talent, and show your commitment to employee development.

Training that’s designed for your business
When you partner with the Skills Bootcamp team, you get access to motivated people who are ready to support your business or strengthen your existing team. If your staff are learning while working, you might be asked to help cover training costs. It’s a smart, cost-effective way to invest in your people.
Skills Bootcamp courses are also available for adults who are unemployed or returning to work after a break, and to serving prisoners due to be released. That means as an employer you can work with training providers to develop and deliver Skills Bootcamps to help fill your vacancies with skilled workers.
The team are looking for employers across Cornwall to get in touch and shape training together that makes a real difference to your business.
